Citrix (Cambridge) Case Study

Relocation

Problem

??????????????????????

Brief

  • To move business critical R&D server equipment to new purpose build labs.
  • Staged decommission and re-commission to allow continuation of normal business.
  • Racking and workstation benches to be broken down and moved in to new labs.
  • Two separate moves over 2 weeks.

Solution

As the client is ongoing the same dedicated project manager that has completed all of this clients projects was assigned for the duration of the project.  The first stage was to carry out a site survey and asset move checklist.  A series of conference calls leading up to the move date were carried out to complete the schedule of works to minimise disruption to the business critical R&D departments.

All servers were then shutdown and decommissioned in accordance with the schedule of works and packed in IT crates and moved to storage.  All racks and workstation benches were broken down and installed in the new locations according to space planning drawings.  All servers then had to be located in their new positions in the various racks, workstation benches and labs.

The client powered up the sensitive servers and tested with sign off completed ahead of schedule.
