Proxim Demonstrates WiMAX
Product Based on New Intel
Corporation Silicon

April 18, 2005 - Proxim Corporation, a global leader in wireless networking equipment for Wi-Fi and broadband wireless networks, on April 19 is demonstrating its initial Tsunami MP.16 that uses the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface at the WiMAX and Wireless Broadband Access Conference in London, England and in Shanghai, China. The system uses Intel’s new WiMAX system on a chip for a complete platform of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) products including
base stations and subscriber stations.

Proxim’s demonstration features its Tsunami MP.16 product family. The demonstration is unique in the product’s support of the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface in both base station and subscriber station. Leveraging the chipset at both ends of the platform allows for optimal interoperability and performance while allowing Proxim to deliver a WiMAX infrastructure that minimizes total cost to the end customer.

“Demonstrations of WiMAX systems like Proxim’s show the momentum that is growing for WiMAX networks,” said Scott Richardson, general manager of Intel’s Broadband Wireless Division. “Proxim’s use of the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface for both base station and subscriber station is an innovative way to deliver a cost-effective total WiMAX package.”
Proxim’s Tsunami offering is designed to meet the performance, reliability, management, and ROI requirements of large service providers, carriers, network operators and enterprises, allowing Proxim customers to implement broadband wireless applications for public safety, security and surveillance, last mile access and municipal networking.
